Welcome

My name is Philipp Girichidis and I am a Postdoc at the Institute for theoretical Astrophysics (ITA) at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. My research focususes on the physical processes in the interstellar medium. Using hydrodynamical simulations I work on aspects of

  • the effects of cosmic rays in the magnetised interstellar medium
  • the lauching of outflows and stellar winds by supernovae and cosmic rays
  • the impact of magnetic fields on the chemical evolution of molecular clouds and the star formation process
  • turbulence aspects of the gas motions
In a scale-free context I am interested in the processes of turbulent motions in self-gravitating systems and the relation between kinetic, internal, and gravitational energy. I investigate the kinetics and gravitational collapse in turbulent boxes with numerical simulations and statistical descriptions like the density PDF.
